ARCHITECTURE DESIGN IV

Project 1A

Site Analysis

To understand an urban farm for design purposes, the class will form "Task Groups" with diverse focuses. One group will meticulously map and model the site, while another analyzes user demographics and accessibility needs. Delving deeper, other groups explore farm operations, natural and built features, and even the sensory experience of the space. Data collection employs sketches, photography, recordings, and interviews, tapping into both direct observations and official sources. Ultimately, this data will be analyzed to generate design narratives that consider the site's unique environmental and user-centric needs, resulting in a well-integrated and functional urban farm.

Project 1B

Architecture Allotment

While Project 1A focuses on the overall community garden plan, Project 1B zooms in on how material choices influence user experience within that plan. Students will form smaller teams within their existing groups to design an "Architectural Allotment" - a mini experiment exploring how materials can shape form for plant cultivation activities. Think comfortable seating, sun protection, and efficient storage, all aligned with the upcoming Project 2's program. This is a chance to get hands-on and creative, exploring materiality's role in enhancing our connection with growing and caring for plants in the Kebun Komuniti.

Project 2

Kebun Komuniti Center

Imagine a vibrant community hub nestled within the USJ7 Urban Farm, a haven for low-income mothers and a beacon of environmental consciousness. That's the vision behind the USJ7 Kebun Komuniti Center, a project entrusted to students who will delve deep into site analysis and precedent studies to craft a design that resonates with the environment and the people it serves.

Sustainability is at the core of this project. Students will explore environmentally conscious building enclosure designs that minimize the center's footprint, seamlessly blending the structure with the surrounding landscape. Diverse spatial layouts and passive strategies will harness the power of nature, creating a space that breathes and thrives alongside the community it fosters.

Ultimately, the USJ7 Kebun Komuniti Center aspires to be more than just a building. It aims to be a beating heart, drawing people together and nurturing a sense of belonging within this unique urban farm. Through thoughtful design and a deep understanding of the community's needs, students have the chance to create a space that empowers, inspires, and celebrates the spirit of USJ7.
